Syndromes is a differential diagnosis tool that helps a clinician to determine what syndrome may be present that would account for most or all of the specific symptoms selected. There are 12 primary groups of symptoms. Each group contains from a few to dozens of subgroups and/or specific symptoms (638 total). Symptoms can be selected or deselected at any time in the analysis. One can go in and out of Report mode to make symptom changes.
The main screen shows the number of symptoms selected, the total number of syndromes that exhibit at least one of the symptoms and the total number of syndromes that exhibit all of the chosen symptoms.
The Report screen names the syndromes that exhibit all of the symptoms and the top five syndromes from a weighted analysis that are most likely the correct diagnosis.
"Smiths Recognizable Patterns of Human Malformation, 5th Edition," was a primary reference for the development of this application. Purchase of the book as a reference to the syndromes and a dictionary of terms is strongly recommended (The developers of this app are, in no way, affiliated with this textbook).
This application is a screening device and one cannot make conclusive diagnoses based solely on its results. If you are suspicious of a syndrome and the output of this app supports your suspicion, then the proper action would be to refer your patient to a specialist in this area for further evaluation.
